On a Chromebook, there are two ways to disable Caps Lock:
- Use the keyboard shortcut Alt+Search.
- Mouse: Select Caps Lock is on after clicking the time in the system tray.
- The Search key won’t activate or deactivate Caps Lock on its own. Together, you must press Alt and Search.A
Additionally, you can modify the Search key’s behaviour to make it behave like the Caps Lock key. Open the Settings app, then select Device > Keyboard to do this. Choose the Use Search key as Caps Lock option under Caps Lock.
Once you have modified the Search key’s behaviour, you can activate or deactivate Caps Lock by simply hitting the Search key.

By using the Shift key, you may immediately disable Caps Lock if you mistakenly turn it on.
Press the Shift key and the Caps Lock key simultaneously to text in all caps.
To switch between capital and lowercase letters, press the Caps Lock key. For instance, if you type “hello” while using Caps Lock, it will appear as “HELLO.” It will then appear as “hello” if you press the Caps Lock key one again.
